Experts remain unable to determine whether the meeting itself contributed anything.
SUMMERVILLE, SC — Employees at an unidentified local office reportedly completed a full afternoon of work after a Pine Barrens business lunch arrived with labeled focaccia sandwiches, hot pizza, smoked wings, and enough napkins to prevent an incident near the copier.
The improvement began shortly after noon, when a conference room previously associated with budget reviews and quiet resentment was converted into a lunch destination. Witnesses described an immediate increase in morale, voluntary attendance, and the number of people asking whether there was another tray in the hall.
Management had ordered a combination of pressed focaccia sandwiches, including The Bourdain with mortadella and provolone, The Meadow with crispy chicken cutlet and pesto, and The Bear with braised chuck roast and giardiniera. Each sandwich was labeled, eliminating the traditional office-lunch ritual of opening every box and asking, “Is this mine?”
“Nobody remembers the meeting. Everybody remembers who ordered lunch.”
A separate stack of pizza boxes contained Pepperoni & Hot Honey and Jersey Tomato Pie. The smoked wings were finished crispy and vanished before a reliable inventory could be conducted.
“We scheduled a forty-five-minute meeting and finished in twenty,” one employee said. “I cannot prove the pizza caused that, but I am unwilling to test the alternative.”
Pine Barrens designed its Summerville business-lunch program for offices that need food to arrive together, on time, and clearly labeled. Boxed sandwiches, pies, wings, salads, and drinks can be organized for small teams or the kind of company meeting where someone has invited every department for reasons nobody understands.
Economic analysts caution that one lunch is not enough to establish a permanent productivity trend. The office has therefore scheduled another order for next Thursday.
